Setup wizard (PrestaShop)
Use this page when you want to know what the Kea Labs Search Pro setup wizard does, when it appears, and what the merchant decides at each step.
[!NOTE] The setup wizard is a first-time experience for the storefront search interface — it does not configure search behavior. The wizard picks the search experience type, reviews the interface configuration, applies theme colours, and builds a preview. Field priorities, filters, and synonyms are configured separately in the search settings guides. The setup wizard does not ask for search fields, facets, or synonyms.
When the wizard appears
Section titled “When the wizard appears”The wizard appears the first time the merchant opens the Kea Labs dashboard, before any search widget is configured. The embedded Kea Labs dashboard checks the wizard’s completion state on every load. While the wizard is not complete, the dashboard redirects to the wizard’s first step instead of the regular home page.
Once the wizard is complete, the dashboard stops redirecting and the regular home page is shown. Some dashboard entry points may allow the merchant to open the setup flow again, but the typical merchant flow is: complete the wizard once, then manage the store from the regular dashboard.
Where to find it
Section titled “Where to find it”In the PrestaShop back office:
- Open Modules → Module Manager.
- Find Kea Labs Search Pro in the module list.
- Click Configure on the module row.
- If the wizard has not been completed, the dashboard opens directly into the wizard.
- If the wizard has already been completed, the dashboard opens into the regular home page.
The wizard is a full-screen surface — there is no top navigation while the wizard is open. The PrestaShop back office chrome remains visible around the wizard surface, but the wizard itself takes the full height of the embedded area.
The five steps
Section titled “The five steps”The wizard has five steps, in order:
- Welcome — an informational page. The page shows a summary of what the wizard will do: pick a search experience, customise the colours to match the brand, preview the search before customers see it, and turn the search on when ready. The page has no inputs to fill in.
- Choose Experience — the merchant chooses a search
experience. The page shows the available experiences
side by side, each with a short description, a feature
list, and a preview image. The typical choices are:
- Search Widget — instant results appear inside the search bar as the shopper types. No page redirect.
- Classic Results Page — the shopper is sent to a dedicated results page when they submit a query.
- Widget + Results Page — instant results inside the search bar plus a dedicated results page for deeper browsing.
- Search Interface — the merchant reviews and adjusts the search-interface layout for the selected experience. The exact controls depend on the experience and current UI settings; some integration selectors are managed later from UI Settings instead of inside the wizard.
- Theme & Integration — the merchant reviews where search attaches to the store and picks brand colors such as header, main, accent, button, border, and background colors. The color choices apply to the storefront search interface.
- Build & Preview — the merchant reviews the configuration, sees
the indexing status, and previews the search on the
storefront. The summary page has:
- A list of the choices made in steps 2, 3, and 4.
- A status indicator that shows the indexing progress (the wizard waits for the index to be ready before it can show a preview).
- A Preview button that opens the storefront search bar in a new tab.
- A Go to dashboard button that completes the wizard and routes to the regular home page.
What the merchant decides
Section titled “What the merchant decides”The wizard is a configuration surface, not a search-relevance surface. The wizard does not ask for:
- which fields the search engine considers — that is configured in the Fields page.
- which facets the storefront filter sidebar shows — that is configured in the Facets page.
- which terms are synonymous — that is configured in the Synonyms page.
The wizard only asks for: which search experience to enable, how the storefront search interface should look, which colours to use, and whether the preview is ready.
Step-by-step: run the wizard
Section titled “Step-by-step: run the wizard”- Open the Kea Labs dashboard from the PrestaShop back office (see above).
- On the Welcome step, read the summary. Click Next.
- On the Choose Experience step, click the card for the experience you want. Click Next.
- On the Search Interface step, review and adjust the interface controls that are available for the experience you picked. If the page points you to UI Settings for selectors or URLs, leave that advanced integration work for UI Settings. Click Next.
- On the Theme & Integration step, review the integration summary, pick the colours, and click Next.
- On the Build & Preview step, wait for the indexing status to reach Ready, then click Preview to open the storefront search bar in a new tab. Verify the search widget looks the way you expect.
- Click Go to dashboard to complete the wizard and return to the regular home page.
Common mistakes
Section titled “Common mistakes”- Trying to use the wizard to configure search fields or filters. The wizard does not expose field priorities, facet lists, or synonyms. Use the search settings guides for those.
- Skipping the preview. The summary step has a preview button for a reason — the widget may not render the way you expect until you see it in the actual storefront context. Always preview before clicking Go to dashboard.
- Picking a color scheme that fails contrast. The color picker does not enforce a minimum contrast ratio between the text color and the background color. Pick colors that are easy to read on a real screen.
- Re-running the wizard for normal changes after setup. After setup, change search experience and interface settings from UI Settings instead of re-running the wizard.
